In this section the soil was hard clay and iron stone, we needed a pick to dig the holes for planting.
So we mulched well  with hardwood wood chip and fertilized in the spring and autumn.
.
What a difference 15 years makes, the house is still there, but now has a lovely privacy barrier.
The palms on the right of the photo are Dypsis decaryii (triangle palm) a Latania on the left.
There are now many varieties of cordylines, calatheas, caladiums, anthuriums and
giant white bat plants used as fill ins under the palms.
